USMC WWII Pacific OD Overseas Cap AKA "Piss cutter"
USMC WWII Pacific OD Overseas Cap AKA "Piss cutter"
During WWII, many items, including uniform components were made “in-country” because of the great distances from the factories in the US. Some were even made for whole divisions of Marines in New Zealand and elsewhere to re-supply the decimated supplies after Guadalcanal and throughout the war.
Some of these uniforms were ‘sanctioned’ by the USMC even though they were not up to specs (like the brownish wool uniforms made in NZ). While others were made exactly to specs but considered “non-regulation” because there were more important things to think about at the time. Like winning the war. Our USMC piss cutters are identical to the ones worn by those salty Marines who, at the time liked to exude their own form of prowess by wearing them. And which collectors today so covet.
We first made ours for the TV miniseries “The Pacific” but never made them available to the public like we did our HBTs and camo uniforms. But customers have been asking for them ever since. So here they are. Made exactly the way the non-regulation Pacific piss cutters were made in WWII. From exact USMC patterns and with the same exact fabric as this USMC Olive Drab HBT from our M-41 HBT uniforms which have become today’s gold standard for authenticity for WWII Marine uniforms. So even though these caps were non-regulation, they are identical to the ones worn during the war years.
