This is perhaps the rarest of all Waffen-SS camo clothing. Put into production in late 1944, it was intended for the units of the 501st SS Fallschirmjäger Battalion but the train carrying the shipment was blown up by enemy planes while en route. A quantity of these smocks were however delivered to the Dachau supply depot in the final months of the war then ‘liberated’ by GIs of the Thunderbird division. These ultra-rare smocks have been occasionally encountered at gun shows in the USA, brought home by vets. Today only a handful of these smocks have survived. Recently we had the good fortune of examining a mint example from a private collector. Discovering this Jump jacket is distinctly different from the LW 3rd model jump smocks with many characteristics unique only to this jump smock.

First, it is made from heavy high-quality 9.5 oz broken twill with the reverse side printed in solid dark green on an open screen. Pocket flaps on the breast and waist are of equal size and do not go up to the shoulder seams as per the Luftwaffe model. Collar and lapels are also unique to this garment with "hand-sewn" bartacks on collar and lapels. The shovel holder is also unique and different construction to the LW model. Late war linen pocket linings are used throughout. Armholes are piped in Rayon HBT like the original. We have even copied the various enamel snaps used throughout the smock. There are two simple markings on the left inside the lining pocket. It indicates the smock was made at Sub-camp ‘117’ and the size was marked with a 1,2,3, or 4: Small, Medium, Large, and XLarge. We even located the correct resin closure buttons and the buttonholes are made in the exact same color as the originals. And lastly, we even recreated the embroidered chest eagle that was unique to this jacket only in its exacting form. There are only a limited number of these ‘Collector’ grade jump smocks and are entirely hand-made with all original details.
