These unique boots began to be seen in the Italian theatre in 1943. GIs complained about the lack of ankle protection against mud and dirt always getting in their boots.  So they started taking their boots to Italian cobblers to add to the tongue, and sew a leather gaiter onto the top of the boot.  It soon became very popular throughout the theatre because of its smart look with trousers, bloused out .  Today it is very rare to see an original pair, so we thought we would ‘re-introduce’ them!
